Jake, our not-quite-a-Border-Collie, is the eldest (but certainly not the wisest!) canine member of the family. Aside from his fear of fireworks and gunshots, he is a very laid back and calm boy. He has been a wonderful 'big brother' to the two girls, providing a warm bed of fur to snuggle into, as well as becoming a living chew and tug-toy for puppies. His playful and eternally tolerant nature means he is forgiven for being a rather poor role-model for the girls during training! The introduction of Hermione and Blythe into the household seems to have given Jake a new lease of life. He has suffered from early-onset arthritis for a few years now, but even this seems to have improved dramatically and he now manages very well on a much reduced dosage of anti-inflammatories. Jake loves nothing more than throwing himself over onto his back and waving his leg in the air until Blythe pounces on him for a tussle. Despite the fact that even the simplest of commands usually goes 'in one ear and out the other', we wouldn't change our boy for the world.
